Economic Development

Introduction:
The Mapulana Renaissance Group (MRG) aims to contribute to poverty alleviation goals and tackle global challenges in the region. The following economic development plan is aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and improving the quality of life for the regional population.

Managing and commercializing communal resources:
MRG will advise and work with chieftaincies to manage and commercialise communal resources such as land to develop the region. this will involve conducting surveys and assessing the potential for commercialization. MRG will also identify viable business opportunities and develop business plans to attract investors.

Exploitation of agricultural potential:
MRG will focus on the immediate exploitation of the region’s agricultural potential. this will involve providing training and support to small-scale farmers to improve yields and access to markets. MRG will also explore value-adding opportunities such as agro-processing.

Promotion of numeracy and digital literacy:
MRG will promote numeracy and digital literacy in the communities, especially among the youth. this will involve recruiting volunteers to provide math and science tutoring and introducing coding lessons and projects. MRG will also support the establishment of computer labs and access to the internet.

 Professionalisation of local businesses:
MRG will focus on the professionalization of local businesses through business fora, workshops, conferences, networking events, and online seminar sessions with voluntary expert panels. This will involve providing training on business management, financial management, and marketing.
 
Revitalisation of closed factories and farms:
MRG will identify and explore the potential for revitalizing closed factories, farms, and other abandoned building structures that could be rezoned for other purposes. This will involve conducting feasibility studies and developing business plans.

 Pursuit of infrastructure development projects:
MRG will pursue infrastructure development projects such as the “Moholoholo” road construction where tourism and timber businesses can advance. MRG will also explore other infrastructure projects that can improve access to markets and services.

Development of data-driven platforms:
MRG will develop data-driven platforms to improve the services provided by local businesses. This will involve collecting and analysing data to identify areas for improvement and developing digital solutions to  address these challenges.

Promotion and marketing of the region:
MRG will promote and market the region as a tourist destination. This will involve developing tourism packages and marketing campaigns to attract tourists to the region.
 
Review of current regional land use:
MRG will review the current regional land use, claims, redistribution, planned projects, and valuations. This will involve  working with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure that land use is optimised for economic development.

Sourcing project funding:
MRG will source project funding from local, national,  and international businesses and organisations. This will involve identifying funding     opportunities and developing proposals to attract funding.

Advocacy and cultivation of work ethic:
MRG will advocate for and cultivate work ethic, hospitality, and customer service among the broader regional workforce, including in the public sector where doable. This will involve providing training on these values and promoting their importance to economic development.

Conclusion:
